I think I'm going to enjoy it.<br /><br />Steve, have you had a chance to take a look at Walter Goffart's <i>Variorum</i> collection yet? He has an article which focuses on the absence of martial heroism from contemporary accounts, beginning with Gregory and going through the 8th century.
